IIC&M’s Definition of Coaching

Fundamentally coaching is simply an interactive, results orientated, enlightening process that brings about change.

Coaching provides each person with the opportunity to live a happier, healthier, and peaceful, while maximising their personal and professional potential.

Professional and Accredited Coaches work with their clients in all areas of their lives. They build an on-going relationship using effective coaching skills to produce fulfilling results in all areas of the client’s life in which the client wishes to make improvements.

Coaches believe that their clients are resourceful and the coach’s role is to provide support to allow the client to enhance their own skills, resources and natural creativity.

Coaches, using effective coaching skills, work in partnership with their clients on a voyage of self-discovery of strategies and solutions to achieving their dreams, aspirations and goals.

IIC&M’s Definition of Mentoring

The definition of mentoring is a person who gives another person help and advice over a period of time, and often also teaches them how to do their job or role.  Fundamentally though, mentoring is simply an interactive, results orientated, enlightening process that brings about change.

Mentors work in partnership with their clients on a voyage of self-discovery of strategies and solutions to achieving their dreams, aspirations and goals.

IIC&M’s Definition of Training

Training is an individual’s acquisition of knowledge, skills, and/or competences as a result of attending a training course/workshop which teaches vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific competencies.  Training has the specific goal to improve an individuals capability, capacity, productivity, and performance in relation to those specific competencies.

Training no longer relates to a specific course but observers of the labour-market recognised that as of 2008 there is a need to continue to train beyond the initial qualification; to maintain, upgrade, and update the knowledge and skills throughout your working life in Continuing Professional Development.

Counselling

The definition of counselling is a person who gives advice, an opinion, or instruction in directing the judgement or conduct of another.

Therapy

The definition of therapy is the treatment of disease or disorders, as by some remedial, rehabilitating, or curative process.  Therapy is an act, task, program, etc. that relieves tension.

Supervision

The definition of supervision is a process using observation and feedback, providing opportunities for an individual to reflect on their performance and to receive constructive input from a more experienced coach or mentor, with the aim at advancing their skills, ideally taking place at regular intervals.
